Welcome to the school health services page. Each school building has one school nurse available to assist your child and answer any questions or concerns. If your child takes medication(s), has allergies, or dietary concerns, please contact the school nurse assigned to your child’s building. Often, there are questions on when it is appropriate to keep your child at home. Please see some helpful tips and guidelines below on fevers and other related illnesses. If you are unsure if you should send your child to school, please call the school nurse, or send in a note. We welcome all phone calls and are here to assist you and your children.

Fevers: Students that have a temperature of 100.0 or greater are excluded from school. Students must be fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medication (Tylenol, Motrin, Advil, etc.), prior to returning to school. Students that present a physician’s order that clears them to return to school before the 24-hour mark, will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Vomiting/Diarrhea: Students recovering from GI symptoms should be able to tolerate the school day. Recovering from the stomach bug may take a few days, but please ensure your child is fever free and tolerating fluids and meals prior to sending them to school.

Respiratory Illnesses: We follow the Pennsylvania Department of Health and CDC for all guidelines. Currently, students should be excluded from school until they are fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication. It is also important to consider that before students return to school following an illness, students should be able to tolerate the school day along with improved respiratory symptoms such as, minimal cough. Using appropriate hand hygiene and proper coughing etiquette can help prevent illnesses. For more information, please visit the CDC website.

If there are any additional concerns for your child, please do not hesitate to reach out. The student handbook is also a great resource that may answer other questions that you may have. Pennsylvania School Immunization Requirements

Children in ALL GRADES (K-12) need the following vaccines:

  • 4 doses of tetanus
  • 4 doses of diphtheria
  • 4 doses of polio
  • 2 doses of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR)
  • 3 doses of hepatitis B
  • 2 doses of varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine or must have had Chickenpox disease

Children ENTERING 7th GRADE need the following additional vaccines:

  • 1 dose meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV)
  • 1 dose Tdap vaccine

Children ENTERING 12th GRADE need the following additional vaccine:

  • 2nd dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV)

The only exemptions to the school laws for immunizations are:

  • Medical reasons- written statement from Medical Provider
  • Religious beliefs- objects in writing based on religious beliefs
  • Philosophical/Strong Moral Ethical Conviction- objects in writing based on personal beliefs.
  • If your child is exempt from immunizations, he or she may be removed from school during an outbreak.
